Title controversy and likely renaming
Even as excitement builds, 'Varanasi' has found itself facing a title dispute. Producer Subba Reddy has reportedly filed
a complaint claiming that he registered the title Varanasi two years ago, prompting intervention from the Telugu Film
Chamber. While initial reports from OTT Play suggested that Rajamouli’s team might negotiate for full rights, it is now
believed that no such talks occurred. Instead, the makers are likely to tweak the title for the Telugu version to
‘Rajamouli’s Varanasi’ to retain identity while avoiding legal complications. Since the original title has already been
widely promoted nationwide, the team reportedly does not want to risk confusion by opting for a completely new name.
