Rohit Sharma, despite retiring from T20 Internationals, has expressed his keenness to represent Mumbai in the upcoming

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy knockouts. The star batter, currently engaged in the ODI series against South Africa, could

feature for Mumbai in the tournament's final stages. This move aligns with BCCI's mandate for Indian players to

participate in domestic cricket when available.

The ODI series ends on Saturday. Having won all their four matches so far in the league stage of the tournament in

Lucknow, and topping Elite Group A with 16 points in the bag, Mumbai are primed to enter the knockouts. “Rohit has

expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of SMAT,” a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association said.

Earlier this year, the BCCI made it compulsory for all India players to feature in domestic cricket when not on national

duty or not recuperating from injury.
