Pope Leo XIV's first Extraordinary Consistory of Cardinals is scheduled for January 7-8, 2026, at the Vatican, according

to the Holy See Press Office.

The announcement, released on Saturday, described the gathering as a time for "communion and fraternity," with

opportunities for "reflection, sharing, and prayer."

During the two-day event, the Cardinals will join Pope Leo XIV in prayer and reflection, offering counsel on governing

the Church. The Consistory's purpose is to encourage discernment and provide support to the Pope as he carries out his

duties within the universal Church.

The statement explained that the Consistory is intended to reinforce the relationship between the Bishop of Rome and the

Cardinals, who are called upon to assist in the well-being of the global Church.

This meeting of Cardinals will occur just after Pope Leo XIV closes the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica on January 6,

which is the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord.
