Kate Middleton and Prince William have dropped a romantic new photo

The Prince and Princess of Wales posed for a portrait by Alex Bramall at Frogmore House ahead of the German state

banquet at Windsor Castle

Princess Kate made her debut in Queen Victoria's Oriental Circlet Tiara — the largest headpiece she has worn to date

Kate Middleton and Prince William looked straight out of a storybook in an official portrait taken just before the

German state banquet.

On Dec. 3, the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 43, oozed glamour in a new photo that they shared to social media just

before the state banquet got underway at Windsor Castle.

"Looking forward to a special banquet tonight in Windsor 🇩🇪🇬🇧," they captioned the snap, adding emojis of the German and

Union Jack flags.

The photo was taken by Alex Bramall at Frogmore House, a royal residence near Windsor Castle, and showed the couple

standing close together in front of a twinkling Christmas tree.

Princess Kate shimmered in Queen Victoria’s Oriental Circlet Tiara — wearing the historic headpiece for the first time —

and it also marked her largest tiara moment to date. Until now, the Princess of Wales has favored more understated

pieces, making her debut in the Oriental Circlet an especially exciting first for its scale and striking sparkle.

The future queen also pinned on a pair of the late Queen Elizabeth's earrings and brought the wow factor in a glittering

blue caped gown by Jenny Packham with the Royal Family Order and the Royal Victorian Order sash and star.

Prince William, meanwhile, was dapper in a Windsor tail coat with white tie, plus his Most Noble Order of the Garter

Sash with the Lesser George and Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath neck order, among other regalia

and medals.

The Prince and Princess of Wales got all dressed up for the diplomatic dinner at Windsor Castle that will cap the first

day of the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and first lady Elke Büdenbender's state visit to the U.K., where

they will join King Charles and Queen Camilla in hosting the guests of honor.

While Prince William and Princess Kate's official picture before the bash would make for a fairytale Christmas card,

they might already have another idea in the works!

William and Kate are known to release a picture with their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and

Prince Louis, 7, around Christmas each year in a family tradition.
