Joan Laporta, the president of FC Barcelona, has voiced his regret regarding the current state of affairs between
himself and Lionel Messi. He expressed sadness about their strained relationship.
It's understood that Messi harbors resentment towards Laporta stemming from his exit from the club in 2021. Messi
reportedly felt misled, believing he was promised a new contract.
During an appearance on the La2CAT program ‘Pla Seqüència’, Laporta acknowledged his regret over Messi's departure.
However, he emphasized his loyalty to the club, stating, “I am a Barça player and above all else is the institution.”
Laporta revealed limited contact with Messi since his departure. "We called each other on his birthday when he left.
Alejandro (Echevarría) put us in touch. It was an affectionate conversation, although it has had no consequences and the
subject has left me sad."
Recently, Messi made a discreet return to Camp Nou, confessing how much he misses Barcelona. Laporta addressed the
circumstances of Messi's visit and conveyed his eagerness to mend their relationship.
He explained, "[He came] with some friends from the national team and Pepe Costa, they saw the light here, they decided
to come, the head of security called the stadium coordinator and they entered the stadium."
Laporta emphasized Messi's significance to the club's history. "In 125 years of the club’s history, Messi’s moment is
one of the most glorious, if not the most glorious, he must have recognition. He is someone linked to Barça who has more
projection, he has given a lot to Barça and Barça a lot to him. Hopefully we will meet again."
Laporta concluded by stating his willingness to resolve any issues. "It depends on the other party, I am willing to fix
anything... with a tribute, a statue."
