Cody Rhodes And Oba Femi Come Face To Face
MORE FOR YOU
Not one second did Oba Femi seem out of his element when standing face-to-face with Cody Rhodes. Fans applauded him after his opening remarks and even did the “hoo" chant at the end of every sentence.
Oba said everybody acts like the future is something that is far away. But Oba is knocking on Cody’s front door to show him that the future is here and now. He can prove himself and WWE right with what should be an inevitable win at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Cody Rhodes responded by saying he’s the man who beat John Cena for the championship he is holding. As Cody tried to walk off triumphantly, Femi grabbed him by the arm. Both men held up their world titles as the Mohegan Sun Arena cheered the top stars.
Ilja Dragunov Def. Tommaso Ciampa
Tommaso Ciampa took advantage of Ila Dragunov’s surgically repaired knee early and often. Corey Graves noted Dragunov was 7-0 since returning, and none of his prior opponents took advantage of his knee.
Ciampa suplexed Dragunov at an angle where Ilja crashed his knee into the steel stairs. Dragunov went for the Constantine Special, but his knee gave out when he landed back into the ring. Dragunov bought himself some time with an enzuigiri, but he connected with his bad leg.
Dragunov planted Ciampa on the back of his neck with a standing high-angle spinebuster. Ciampa dropped Dragunov on the apron for an air raid crash. Michael Cole questioned Ilja’s well being and whether or not referee Dan Engler should stop the match.
Ciampa hit an air raid crash from the second rope for another nearfall. Fans chanted “this is awesome.” Dragunov was bleeding from the mouth and some of it got on Ciampa.
Gargano distracted a referee as a bloodied Dragunov went in for the win. Candice draped Dragunov over the top rope followed by a running knee from Ciampa. Nearfall. Dragunov rolled up Ciampa for the win.
Gargano and Ciampa jumped Dragunov after the match as Carmelo Hayes made the save. Carmelo was more over than everybody in this segment combined. Melo helped Dragunov to his feet and shook his hand.
Ilja Dragunov Vs. Tommaso Ciampa Match Grade: B+
Uncle Howdy Calls Out Solo Sikoa
Uncle Howdy said Solo’s real family turned their back on him because he uses and abuses those he loves. Fans cheered for the Wyatt Sicks but they were eerily quiet during Howdy’s promo. You could hear a pin drop.
Uncle Howdy said the MFTs run nothing while the Wyatt Sicks have the tag team titles. Howdy said if Solo wanted these titles, they could come and get them. Solo Sikoa responded with a backstage promo alongside the MFTs.
Solo Sikoa threatened to take the tag team titles next week on SmackDown. Solo said if the Wyatt Sicks didn’t give the MFTs the tag titles, they would take them.
Alexa Bliss Vs. Lash Legend
Lash legend dominated early as the announcers talked up Legend’s potential despite her inexperience. Alexa Bliss battled back with a dropkick while Lash was down to her knees. Lash cut her off with the “Lash minute” forearm.
Legend toyed with Bliss as Nia Jax got involved. Charlotte evened the odds but Lash laid out Charlotte with a Bicycle Kick. Legend countered a tilt-a-whirl with a Lash Extension Slam for the win.
Alexa Bliss Vs. Lash Legend Match Grade: B-
Je’Von Evans Vs. The Miz
Michael Cole talked about Je’Von Evans youth and inexperience, highlighting his impatience when he immediately challenged Oba Femi to a world title match just a few nights after winning the Iron Survivor Challenge. Given his potential, however, Je’Von isn’t the future, he is a the present.
Evans’ “overzealousness” came in stark contrast to Miz’s methodical offense. Fans were with Je’Von when he did his “Bouncy” hurricanrana, but Miz cut him off and slowed the match down by working over his midsection.
Miz locked Evans in an STF, otherwise known as the world-famous “It Lock.” Miz was upset from being shut out of John Cena’s final knight despite having two chances. Miz wanted to hurt Je’Von Evans to prevent him from making it to tomorrow.
Miz slammed Evans with a modified power bomb and hit the Five Knuckle Shuffle. Fans cheered The Miz for doing this. Evans shook off an A-List Adjustment and soared over the top rope to take out the Miz. “This is awesome” chants. After a back-and-forth exchange, Je’Von hit an OG Cutter for the win.
Je’Von Evans Vs. The Miz Match Grade: B+
Jade Cargill Destroys Michin
Jade Cargill faced off with Rhea Ripley in a backstage tease for a possible WrestleMania match. Jade was not dressed to compete despite being scheduled to face Michin. Jade destroyed Michin backstage and walked to the ring in her street clothes.
Jade said that’s what happens when women don’t know their place in the back. Before she could finish her promo, Jade was interrupted by a wobbly Michin with a kendo stick in hand. Michin whacked Jade with a kendo stick as she unloaded on the champion.
Michin pulled out a table but Jade answered with a pump kick. Jade teased pulling out the table only to shove the table back under the ring. Jade chokeslammed Michin in the ring and stormed off.
The Terror Twins Def. The Necessary Evil
Damian Priest and Aleister Black fired off on one another. Priest tagged in Rhea Ripley, who played a cat-and-mouse game with the much smaller Zelina Vega. Fans chanted “Mami” as Ripley ragdolled the former Queen of the Ring.
Vega held her own against Rhea Ripley coming out of commercial. Fans desperately chanted “Mami” as scrappy Zelina held her off. Vega screwed up a move but made up for it with a DDT. Ripley dropped Vega and made the hot tag to Priest.
Zelina again jumped on Priest like a gnat. Black took advantage of the distraction with a bridging back suplex for a nearfall. Ripley tagged back in, but Vega remained one step ahead. Black launched Vega onto Rhea for a team-up hurricanrana. The husband-and-wife couple followed up with stereo moonsaults to the outside.
Ripley went for a fallaways slam, but Zelina landed awkwardly while attempting a Code Red. Zelina folded in half, but Zelina miraculously was able to walk. The spot took fans out of the match briefly, but the two recovered as Ripley hit an electric chair slam on Vega.
The Terror Twins hit a stereo Razor’s Edge. Rhea was legal, so she hit a Riptide on Vega for the win.
The Terror Twins vs. The Necessary Evil Grade: B
