Updated on 03 Dec 2025 Category: Science

Don't miss the spectacular sight of the final supermoon of the year lighting up the skies in Goa on December 4, 2025. Join free public observations facilitated by the Association of Friends of Astronomy Goa.

Panaji: The final supermoon of 2025 is set to illuminate the night sky Dec 4. Unlike a regular full moon, supermoon occurs when Moon is at its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, coinciding with the full moon phase. Scientists call this phenomenon ‘syzygy-perigee’, but for skywatchers, it simply means a moon that appears brighter and up to 14% larger than usual. In Goa, the moon will rise at 5.22pm and remain visible till it sets at 5.50am the next day. The Association of Friends of Astronomy Goa is facilitating public observations across multiple locations, free of charge and without the need for prior registration. In Panaji, enthusiasts can gather at the public astronomical observatory, Junta House, while Mapusa residents are invited to the Saraswat college ground at Khorlim. More sessions will be held at Benaulim beach, Baina beach, and Art Park in Porvorim.
