Dhruv Rathee labels Aditya Dhar's 'Dhurandhar' as dangerous propaganda in a new video, contrasting it with less effective films like 'The Taj Story'.
YouTuber Dhruv Rathee has voiced strong criticism against the movie 'Dhurandhar,' branding it as perilous propaganda. In a video released on Saturday, Rathee dissects the film, asserting that director Aditya Dhar is disseminating falsehoods through what he calls a deceptive narrative.
Rathee's video, titled ‘Reality of Dhurandhar,’ argues that the film’s polished production quality amplifies its potential harm. He contrasts it with movies such as 'The Taj Story' and 'The Bengal Files,' which he considers less threatening due to their inferior quality. According to Rathee, a skillfully crafted piece of propaganda is far more insidious than poorly executed attempts.
Rathee also addressed defenses of 'Dhurandhar' that dismiss it as mere entertainment. He countered this argument by emphasizing the film’s repeated claims of being inspired by actual events. Rathee points out that the trailer explicitly states this connection, and the movie incorporates authentic footage from the 26/11 attacks, along with genuine audio recordings of conversations involving the terrorists. Furthermore, Rathee notes the film's use of characters based on real-life gangsters and police officers from Lyari, Pakistan. By grounding the film in reality, Rathee contends, 'Dhurandhar' achieves a higher level of believability compared to typical spy thrillers like the 'Pathaan' or 'Tiger' series.
Prior to the video's release, Rathee had tweeted his intention to thoroughly critique the film. As of now, neither Aditya Dhar nor the producers of 'Dhurandhar' have issued any response to Rathee's critique.
