Malaysia's U-19 cricket captain, Deeaz Patro, has declared his team's intention to limit the impact of India's young star, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, in their upcoming Asia Cup match. This statement follows Suryavanshi's impressive 171 against the UAE, which was then followed by a less impactful 5 against Pakistan.
Patro, who draws inspiration from Australian cricketer David Warner and has family roots in Odisha, indicated that specific strategies are in place to dismiss Suryavanshi. All-rounder Muhammad Aalif, a Virat Kohli fan, also expressed excitement about the challenge of facing the Indian team.
India will face Malaysia on Tuesday, holding the top position in Group A after winning both of their initial matches. Malaysia, after losing both of their matches, is currently at the bottom of the group. While Malaysia is out of contention for the tournament, they are aiming to disrupt India's momentum and provide a tough contest.
“Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a rising star, but we have planned strategies to trap him using our best bowlers,” Patro told TimesofIndia.com. He also highlighted the team's intensive training in preparation for the tournament. Aalif echoed this sentiment, adding, “I think our preparation with the coaches has been excellent... We are also looking forward to meeting Vaibhav and are excited to interact with him.”
Deeaz Patro's connection to India is strong. His father, originally from Odisha, moved to Malaysia seeking work. Deeaz was encouraged to pursue sports from a young age and developed a passion for cricket. He wears jersey number 31 to honor his idol, David Warner. “He is from Orissa... When I was four, he introduced me to cricket and enrolled me in a cricket club... I admire David Warner’s aggression on the field,” Deeaz stated.
Aalif finds inspiration in Virat Kohli. He began playing cricket around the age of 10, with his mother's support. “I really admire Virat Kohli — his aggression, mindset, and classic cover drive have inspired me,” Aalif said.
