Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra is the likely next Chairman & Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India, pending final approval. He currently serves as Director (Projects).

Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra is the frontrunner to become the next Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power. The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) panel recommended him for the position on Saturday.

Burra currently holds the position of Director (Projects) within Power Grid. His recommendation follows a PESB panel interview of nine candidates. Other contenders included senior executives from Power Grid itself, Ircon International Limited, National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), and Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited.

An engineering graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Management, Burra brings over three decades of experience in the power and telecom sectors. His previous roles at POWERGRID include Chief Operating Officer (Telecom) and Officer on Special Duty (Projects), where he managed critical responsibilities related to project execution and business development.

Burra's understanding of the power sector's regulatory landscape led to his role as a founding member of POWERGRID's Regulatory Cell. He also played a key role in POWERGRID's entry into tariff-based competitive bidding, a strategic move that helped the company succeed in India's evolving power transmission market.

The PESB's recommendation now goes to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval.
