The IPL 2026 auction saw 79 players unsold, despite Kolkata Knight Riders' record-breaking purchase of Cameron Green for ₹25.20 crore.
The IPL 2026 auction concluded on Tuesday, with franchises spending a total of ₹215.45 crores to acquire 77 players for the upcoming Indian Premier League season. Of those players bought, 29 are from overseas.
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green was the biggest acquisition of the auction. The Kolkata Knight Riders secured him for ₹25.20 crore, making him the most expensive international player in the league's history.
That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. several well-known international players found themselves without a team after the auction. The list of unsold players included Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk, English wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, and New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell and Devon Conway.
Other prominent international players who went unsold include Alzarri Joseph, Gus Atkinson, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, and Spencer Johnson.
Despite the high demand for domestic talent typical of mini-auctions, several established Indian players also failed to be picked up by any of the franchises. Among them were Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, KS Bharat, Karn Sharma, Murugan Ashwin, and Chetan Sakariya, all of whom have represented India internationally.
In total, 79 players remained unsold at the IPL 2026 auction. This figure includes 48 Indian players and 31 international players.
