London police will not investigate claims that Prince Andrew directed his bodyguard to investigate Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual assault.
London's Metropolitan Police have announced they will not investigate allegations that Prince Andrew, formerly known as Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, instructed a bodyguard to gather compromising information on Virginia Giuffre in 2011.
Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexual assault and later settled out of court in 2022, died earlier this year at the age of 41. She had claimed that Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell sexually trafficked her to Andrew when she was a teenager.
The Mail on Sunday reported in October that Andrew provided his personal protection officer with Giuffre's date of birth and social security number. The newspaper alleged this was done to find information that could discredit Giuffre, who held dual US and Australian citizenship.
The report surfaced shortly before King Charles III reportedly decided to remove Andrew's royal titles. The former prince is also expected to vacate his Royal Lodge residence.
In a statement, the Metropolitan Police confirmed they had assessed the claims that Andrew "asked his Met Police Close Protection Officer to carry out checks" on Giuffre in 2011.
"The assessment has not revealed any additional evidence of criminal acts or misconduct," stated Senior Met officer Ella Marriott.
Giuffre's family has expressed their disappointment with the Metropolitan Police's decision.
