Turkish fighter planes shot down an unmanned aerial vehicle that had flown into its airspace near the Black Sea, according to Turkey's Defense Ministry.
Turkish F-16 fighter jets shot down a drone that had entered Turkey's airspace over the Black Sea, the Defense Ministry announced Monday.
The ministry stated that the unmanned aerial vehicle was deemed to be "out of control." The incident follows recent Ukrainian attacks targeting Russian tankers operating off the Turkish coast. Turkish officials have also expressed concerns about the potential for the war in Ukraine to escalate and spread to other regions.
According to the Defense Ministry, the drone was detected approaching Turkish airspace, prompting the immediate dispatch of F-16s. The drone was then shot down in a secure location away from populated areas to prevent any possible danger.
