Triumph Motorcycles reveals the Tracker 400 in the UK, a retro-styled roadster. Despite Indian manufacturing, an India launch is currently unlikely.
Triumph Motorcycles has introduced the Tracker 400 in the UK, adding a new retro-inspired model to its 400cc lineup. The design takes cues from classic flat-track racing bikes and is based on the Speed 400 platform.
While sharing a foundation with the Speed 400, the Tracker 400 boasts the same engine tuning as the Thruxton 400, giving it a slightly sportier feel.
The Tracker 400's design emphasizes a minimalist and functional aesthetic. Key features include a long, flat seat, a slender fuel tank shaped for knee support, and a short tail section, all contributing to its flat-tracker appearance. A round LED headlight, tracker-style side panels, a seat cowl, and minimal bodywork further accentuate its retro design.
Like the Speed 400, the Tracker 400 is powered by a 398.15cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. it uses the Thruxton 400's engine tuning, resulting in approximately 41.5bhp at 9,000rpm and 37.5Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. A six-speed gearbox and a slip-and-assist clutch are included. The engine is known for its refined operation and strong mid-range power.
The Tracker 400's chassis components largely mirror those of the Speed 400. It features a hybrid perimeter steel frame, upside-down front forks, and a gas-charged rear monoshock. Braking is provided by disc brakes on both wheels, enhanced by dual-channel ABS. It rides on 17-inch alloy wheels fitted with road-oriented, knobby-style tires.
Standard features on the Tracker 400 include full-LED lighting, a semi-digital instrument cluster, ride-by-wire throttle, traction control, and dual-channel ABS.
Despite being manufactured in India, a launch of the Triumph Tracker 400 in India seems improbable at this time. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. a Tracker 350 version could potentially be introduced in the future. Bajaj is reportedly developing a smaller 350cc engine for the Indian market, influenced by revised GST regulations affecting motorcycles with engines larger than 350cc. Still, Bajaj's decision to launch a Tracker-style motorcycle in India will likely depend on sufficient demand for this niche segment.
