Smartlet introduces a unique watch band that lets users wear a traditional watch and a smartwatch simultaneously, addressing the dilemma of choosing between style and functionality.
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is known for showcasing innovative, sometimes quirky, ideas. At CES 2026, Smartlet, a Paris-based startup, unveiled a solution for those torn between the timeless appeal of analog watches and the practical features of smartwatches: a modular watch strap that allows you to wear both simultaneously.
Dubbed Smartlet, the system is designed to mount a traditional mechanical watch on the top of the wrist while discreetly housing a smartwatch or fitness tracker underneath. This addresses a common dilemma for watch enthusiasts who appreciate the craftsmanship and aesthetic of classic timepieces but also desire the convenience of notifications, fitness tracking, and mobile payments offered by smartwatches.
The Smartlet strap, constructed from stainless steel, has a starting price of $418. It's important to note that this price includes only the strap system; the smartwatch and analog watch are purchased separately. The strap is designed for compatibility, supporting most major smartwatches and fitness trackers, including Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google Pixel Watch, Garmin models, Fitbit Charge devices, and Whoop. It also supports analog watches with lug widths ranging from 18 to 24mm, encompassing high-end brands like Omega, Tudor, TAG Heuer, and Rolex.
The concept originated from Smartlet's founder, David Ohayon, who sought a way to avoid choosing between his analog watch and his Apple Watch each day. Smartlet aims to provide a seamless transition between fitness tracking during workouts and a sophisticated look for professional settings.
That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the design raises practicality concerns. The added bulk, with Smartlet claiming an additional 9 to 12mm of height to the underside of the wrist, could be cumbersome. The potential for scratching the concealed smartwatch against surfaces like desks and armrests is also a valid worry.
Smartlet’s marketing targets a specific demographic: the affluent “modern gentleman.” The product caters to individuals who value luxury watches as status symbols and investments but also want to track their fitness data. While not a mainstream solution, Smartlet's unique approach made it a notable product at CES, highlighting the evolving landscape of wearable technology and the desire for personalized solutions that blend technology with personal style.
