Longines unveils a Master Collection moon phase watch to celebrate the 2026 Year of the Horse. Limited to 2,026 pieces, it features cultural symbols.
To celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year in 2026, Longines has introduced a special edition timepiece. The Lunar New Year, beginning February 17, 2026, and continuing until February 5, 2027, will be the Year of the Horse. Longines has chosen a moon phase model from its Master Collection to honor the seventh animal in the zodiac.
Limited to 2,026 pieces, this watch incorporates symbolic cultural elements, including an engraving of Peon Xu’s 'Galloping Horse' on the movement's gilt rotor. This release follows previous Longines editions for the Year of the Dragon and the Year of the Snake.
The Master Collection Year of the Horse for 2026 features a deep red sunray-brushed dial with a gradient effect, which darkens toward the edge. Red symbolizes good fortune, joy, prosperity, and protection in Chinese culture. Gold accents enhance the design, with gilt appliques, golden indices, a golden Longines winged logo, and gold-plated leaf-shaped hands for the hours and minutes. The minutes are displayed on the dial's inclined flange.
The watch face displays the moon phases at 6 o’clock with an integrated pointer date, a key element reflecting the importance of the moon in the Chinese Lunisolar calendar. The golden moon moves across a starry backdrop, complemented by a golden leaf-shaped hand to indicate the date.
In collaboration with the Peon Art Museum in China, the watch features an engraving of Xu’s 'Galloping Horse' on the rotor, overseen by Qingping Xu, the artist’s son. Xu's work blends traditional Chinese ink art with Western painting techniques. The horse, representing courage, freedom, speed, and strength, is shown in full stride, its motion enhanced by the rotor's movement.
The 42mm stainless steel case is polished and measures 11.2mm in thickness. It has a water resistance of 30m and is fitted with transparent sapphire crystals on the front and back. The automatic calibre L899.5, based on the ETA A31.L91, has been modified for Longines, operating at a slightly reduced frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour and providing a 72-hour power reserve.
