Channel 7 accuses a member of England's cricket staff of a physical confrontation with a cameraman at Brisbane Airport before the third Ashes Test.
An Australian television network, Channel 7, has accused a member of the England cricket team's staff of engaging in a physical confrontation at Brisbane Airport. The incident allegedly occurred on Saturday afternoon as the England team was traveling from Brisbane to Adelaide, ahead of the third Ashes Test match.
According to reports, the confrontation began when a member of England's security staff attempted to position himself between a Channel 7 cameraman and the England squad as they moved through the airport. Footage broadcast by Channel 7 showed the back-and-forth interaction.
Cricket Australia had previously instructed media outlets that teams would not be available for interviews while in transit at airports. The guidelines also specified that all images should be captured from a respectful distance.
In Channel 7's report, journalist Tom Wilson asserted that cameraman Nick Carrigan was "well within his rights to be filming" and that he "respects the unwritten rules of not getting too close."
A spokesperson for Channel 7 released a statement saying: "There was an incident at Brisbane Airport involving a 7NEWS camera operator and a member of the England cricket team's travelling party."
The statement continued: "While conducting routine filming in a public space, the camera operator was physically confronted despite acting respectfully and professionally. The safety and wellbeing of our staff is paramount. This matter is being taken seriously and is now being managed through the appropriate channels."
While England's representatives have not yet issued a comment, it is understood that Channel 7 has brought the incident to the attention of the England touring team. Cricket Australia has also declined to comment on the matter. The incident occurred as England concluded their break.
