Tata Harrier EV QWD With Dual Motors To Get More Affordable
AWD versions of the Tata Harrier EV are performing above expectations, accounting for nearly 30% of total sales

Tata Motors had launched the Harrier EV earlier this year in June. It has emerged as one of the bestselling electric cars in Tata’s portfolio, helping boost market share in the EV segment. One of the key features of Harrier EV is AWD (branded as QWD), which is currently available only with the top-spec Empowered trim. Tata is now planning to introduce AWD with lower variants as well. Let’s get more details on this development.
QWD to become more accessible
While QWD is a segment-first feature, the starting price is Rs 28.99 lakh. Even with the high pricing, Harrier EV AWD variants have generated close to 1/3rd of the SUV’s total sales. This is higher than the company’s original estimate of 20%, at the time of launch.
Sales data clearly indicates that the market is favouring performance-oriented versions of Harrier EV. Apart from the superior performance, most other features and equipment list are largely the same as the top variants that do not have QWD. It includes the Empowered 75 and Empowered 75 ACFC, which are available at Rs 27.49 lakh and Rs 27.98 lakh, respectively.
In addition to the dual motor setup, the QWD variants of Harrier EV also have Boost Mode, Offroad Assist and 6 terrain modes (Normal, Snow/Grass, Mud-Ruts, Sand, Rock Crawl, Custom). While QWD has gained popularity, the high pricing could be limiting the sales potential. With Tata planning to introduce QWD with some of the lower variants, sales of Harrier EV could see a further boost.
Fearless trim could get QWD
Primary trim levels of Harrier EV include Adventure, followed by Adventure S, Fearless + and Empowered. It is possible that QWD could be introduced with the Fearless + trim of Harrier EV. This trim has both the 65 kWh and the 75 kWh battery pack options on offer. Prices for the Fearless + trim start at Rs 23.99 lakh. As of now, QWD is available with only the variants with the 75-kWh battery pack. It is not clear if the trims below Fearless will also receive the QWD update.
Harrier EV – Performance, battery, range
Entry-level and mid variants of Harrier EV have battery pack options of 65 kWh and 75 kWh. These are offered with the electric motor mounted on the rear axle. The permanent magnet synchronous motor generates 238 PS and 315 Nm of torque. Users can choose from drive modes of Eco, City and Sport.
Certified range, as MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 Cycle, is 538 km for the 65 kWh variants. However, as per Tata’s C75 standards, real-world range comes at around 420-445 km. For the 75 kWh variants, the certified range is 627 km. Real-world range can be expected around 480-505 km.
Harrier EV QWD variants have an additional 158 PS motor mounted at the front. The dual motors have a combined torque output of 504 Nm. Harrier EV QWD variants have a certified range of 622 km. Real-world range is estimated around 460-490 km.
