A series of attacks at two Taipei metro stations in Taiwan left three dead and several injured. The suspect, who had a criminal record, is also deceased.

Tragedy struck Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, on Friday as attacks at two metro stations resulted in the deaths of three people and injuries to five others.

The assailant, believed to be in his twenties, was initially suspected of jumping from a building near the scene of the attacks. Police later confirmed his death after he was transported to a hospital, according to Taiwan's Central News Agency. This brings the total number of fatalities to four, including the attacker.

**Details of the Attacks**

The attacks unfolded at two separate subway stations within Taipei. Based on reports from broadcaster EBC and statements from authorities, here's what is known:

  • A masked individual deployed either gasoline bombs or smoke grenades at Taipei Main subway station.
  • The attacker then traveled one stop on the subway before exiting and discharging more smoke grenades onto the street.
  • Outside the station, the suspect brandished a knife, attacking pedestrians before fleeing into a nearby shop.

It remains unclear how the attacker gained access to the rooftop of a building, from which he jumped in an attempt to evade arrest. Authorities have indicated that some individuals sustained injuries not only from the knife attack but also from the smoke grenades used.

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated that one of the victims was killed while attempting to stop the assailant.

**About the Suspect**

Taiwanese Premier Cho Jung-ta described the attacks as "a deliberate act." He also announced that police have increased security measures at train and subway stations throughout Taiwan.

Authorities have revealed that the suspected attacker had a prior criminal history and outstanding arrest warrants. Premier Cho stated that investigators have searched the suspect's residence. "We will investigate his background and associated relationships to understand his motives and determine if there are other connected factors," he said.

Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te has assured the public that the government will enhance security measures and conduct a swift investigation into the incident to ensure public safety.
