Actress Subhashree Ganguly faced backlash for posting photos with Lionel Messi at a Kolkata event. Her husband, Raj Chakraborty, defends her actions.
Subhashree Ganguly is facing criticism after sharing pictures of herself with Lionel Messi from the GOAT India Tour event in Kolkata. The actress posted the photos on Sunday, including two with Messi, along with the caption: “Represented the Bengali Film Fraternity at The G.O.A.T India Tour @leomessi.” The posts triggered angry reactions and accusations of insensitivity from some fans and political figures.
Critics argued that Subhashree's pictures were poorly timed, given the issues at the event, and accused her of insensitivity towards disappointed fans.
Raj Chakraborty, Subhashree’s husband, has defended her actions. The filmmaker and TMC MLA addressed the situation in a social media post on Sunday. He wrote, “Thousands of people who bought tickets at a high price were deprived of seeing their hero. Her ‘crime’ was posting a photograph with Messi. Does being an actress disqualify her from being a Messi fan?”
Chakraborty also questioned the media's focus on his wife, pointing out that many journalists were present at the event. He suggested that Subhashree was unfairly targeted due to her public profile. “How a person, especially a woman, is treated leaves a lasting imprint. There is a vast difference between protest and humiliation,” he stated.
The GOAT India Tour event in Kolkata was marred by chaos. Many spectators with gallery tickets were unable to see Messi because their view was obstructed by people on the ground. Following the event, the prime organizer was arrested for alleged mismanagement. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident and apologized to fans who were unable to see Messi.
