Sensex today | Stock Market close highlights: After hitting fresh record highs in the morning deals, Indian equity benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty, settled flat on Monday, December 1. The rupee slipped to a new record low amid soft foreign inflows and lingering uncertainty over major trade talks, which dampened investor sentiment.
The BSE Sensex closed at 85,641.9, down 64.77 points or 0.08 per cent and NSE Nifty50 settled at 26,175.75, down 27.2 points or 0.1 per cent. Sensex hit record high at 86,159 in opening deals and Nifty at 26,325.8.
In the broader markets, the Nifty MidCap index ended flat and the Nifty SmallCap index added 0.25 per cent.
Among the sectoral indices, Nifty Realty fell over 1 per cent, followed by Healthcare, Pharma, Bank, Financial Services, FMCG, Media, Consumer Durables, and Oil & Gas. On the contrary, Nifty Auto, Metal and IT settled in green.
On the Sensex, Bajaj Finance, Sun Pharma, Trent, Mahindra & Mahindra, State Bank of India, and Bharti Airtel were the top laggards. Tata Motors PV, Maruti Suzuki, Bharat Electronics, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Adani Ports and HCL Tech were the top gainers.

Stock Market LIVE Updates: Nifty 50 ended today’s session marginally lower near 26,170, extending its tight consolidation just below the record high zone. Despite intraday attempts to regain higher territory, the index faced consistent supply near the 26,250–26,300 resistance band. Structurally, the trend remains positive as long as 26,000–26,050 holds on a closing basis. A decisive breakout above 26,300 is still required to unlock the next leg of upside toward 26,450–26,600. The RSI at 62 reflects neutral momentum, clearly indicating that the market is not yet in an overbought zone. Sector-wise action remained mixed, with relative strength in auto and pharma, while oil & gas and telecom continued to lag.
