Stephen Jamieson, 42, was extradited from Dubai to Scotland and faces organised crime charges. He is accused of directing serious offenses.
A 42-year-old man, Stephen Jamieson, has been extradited from Dubai to Scotland and subsequently appeared in court to face serious organised crime charges. Jamieson was taken into custody in the United Arab Emirates on September 16th before being returned to Glasgow on Thursday.
Jamieson's arrest in Dubai occurred on the same day as three other prominent figures in the Scottish gangland scene: Steven Lyons, Ross McGill, and Steven Larwood. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. Lyons, McGill, and Larwood were released in October.
On Friday, Jamieson appeared in private before a sheriff court in the city. He was charged with six offences, including allegedly directing another individual to commit a serious crime and involvement in serious organised criminal activity. He also faces four charges related to the supply of controlled substances.
Jamieson, whose listed address is in Dubai, entered no plea and was remanded in custody. He is scheduled to reappear in court within eight days.
Police Scotland stated that Jamieson's arrest and charges stem from alleged serious organised crime offences committed across Scotland in 2020. A police spokesperson expressed gratitude for the assistance and cooperation received from the National Crime Agency and law enforcement partners in the United Arab Emirates.
BBC Scotland News understands that detectives from Police Scotland traveled to the UAE earlier in the week to escort Jamieson back to Glasgow.
The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed they provided support to the family of a British national detained in the UAE.
This extradition is believed to be the first of its kind from Dubai to Scotland. It follows the extradition of Sean McGovern, an alleged senior member of the Kinahan organised crime group, from the UAE to Ireland seven months prior.
