Shubman Gill ruled out of South Africa ODIs; three captaincy candidates emerge
"There are no red flags at the moment and he has taken multiple flights - Kolkata to Guwahati, Guwahati to Mumbai, Mumbai to Chandigarh and now Chandigarh to Bengaluru - without any discomfort. All efforts right now are aimed at having him back on the park but it will not be a rushed process. "The moment he is 100% and feels ready for the grind, he will be back with the squad. He is an important all-format player and everyone wants him to be absolutely ready," said an official privy to developments. After injuring his neck during the first innings of the first Test vs South Africa in Kolkata, Gill was hospitalised and ruled out of the fixture and the next game in Guwahati too.
Shubman Gill is looking to recover in time for the first T20I against South Africa on December 9.
While he did travel with the team for the second game, he wasn't able to regain match fitness in the short turnaround time. After reaching Mumbai, Gill consulted a spine specialist in Mumbai and was advised more rest before commencing rehab, training and skill activity. The next few days could decide his participation in the five match T20I series vs South Africa, starting December 9. Having already missed the Tests and ODIs, Gill is leaving no stone unturned in regaining fitness before the shortest format.
