The re-release of 'Sholay: The Final Cut' has met with a tepid response at the Indian box office. Despite the film's status as a classic, its return to cinemas has been underwhelming. The film secured only 373 shows nationwide and registered an occupancy rate of just 13.14%, with Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar' continuing to hold strong in theaters.
**'Sholay: The Final Cut' Box Office Performance**
According to Sacnilk, 'Sholay: The Final Cut' earned approximately ₹30 lakh on its opening day. Day 2 saw a slight increase, with collections reaching ₹49 lakh, bringing the total earnings to ₹79 lakh over the first two days.
**Limited Screen Presence Amidst Competition**
Projections leading up to the release suggested a much larger cinematic event. Initially, the filmmakers announced on November 15 plans for the film to be shown on 1,500 screens across India. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the actual number of screens turned out to be significantly lower, which impacted the number of moviegoers. This version of 'Sholay' includes previously deleted scenes and director Sippy's originally envisioned climax, where Thakur kills Gabbar Singh. The restored version was created using the film's original 70mm materials.
