Shobhaa De says Hema Malini was excluded by Dharmendra's first family after his death. Malini honored him separately. Dharmendra died at 89.
Writer Shobhaa De has shared her thoughts on the family dynamics following the death of veteran actor Dharmendra, suggesting that Hema Malini was excluded by Dharmendra's first family, that of his first wife, Prakash Kaur.
In an interview with Barkha Dutt, De speculated that being left out after dedicating 45 years to Dharmendra and their life together must have been deeply painful for Malini. The couple has two daughters, Esha and Ahana. De noted that Hema Malini maintained her privacy and conducted herself with dignity at public functions following Dharmendra's passing, despite the circumstances.
De further commented that Hema Malini could have easily drawn attention to herself during that emotional time. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. she chose to prioritize dignity instead. According to De, Malini's decision to avoid a display of one-upmanship speaks volumes about her character. The media, De believes, would have eagerly covered Hema Malini's every reaction, potentially intruding on her privacy.
A prayer meeting for Dharmendra, organized by his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, took place in Mumbai on November 27. Hema Malini and her daughters, Esha and Ahana, were not in attendance. Instead, Hema Malini held a separate memorial for Dharmendra at her home on the same day.
Dharmendra, who passed away on November 24 at the age of 89, was previously married to Prakash Kaur in 1954. Together, Dharmendra and Prakash Kaur had four children: Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, and Ajeeta. Dharmendra and Hema Malini have two daughters, Esha and Ahana.
Dharmendra's final on-screen appearance will be in the war drama *Ikkis*, which stars Agastya Nanda. He was discharged from Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai prior to his death and was recuperating at home. The actor was cremated in Mumbai on November 25.
