Sethmika Seneviratne's outstanding five-wicket performance propelled Sri Lanka U-19s to an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Nepal U-19s in the Asia Cup.
Sri Lanka U-19s cruised to an eight-wicket victory over Nepal U-19s in their Asia Cup Group B match, completing the 83-run chase with 35.1 overs to spare, thanks to a stellar bowling performance by Sethmika Seneviratne, who took 5 wickets for 25 runs.
The turning point came early after Sri Lanka U-19s captain Vimath Dinsara won the toss and elected to bowl. Nepal started steadily, reaching 30 without losing a wicket. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. in the eighth over, Dinsara's collaboration with wicketkeeper Aadham Hilmy resulted in a run-out of Niraj Kumar Yadav for 10, triggering a collapse from which Nepal never recovered.
Seneviratne then took charge, dismissing Sahil Patel (caught) for 12 in the ninth over, followed by Vansh Chhetri (bowled) for a duck in the 11th, and Dilsad Ali (caught) without scoring in the 13th. This devastating spell reduced Nepal to 37 for 4, with four wickets falling for a mere seven runs in six overs.
Nepal's captain, Ashok Dhami, then joined Cibrin Shrestha, and the pair attempted to steady the innings. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. their 24-run partnership was broken by Rasith Nimsara, who had Dhami caught behind for 9 at the start of the 21st over. Nepal's slide continued, and they were eventually all out for 82. Vigneshwaran Akash then dismissed Shrestha for 18, the highest score for Nepal in the innings.
Following Shrestha's dismissal, no other Nepal batter managed to reach double figures. Seneviratne then claimed two more lower-order wickets to complete his impressive five-wicket haul, leaving Sri Lanka's batters with a comfortable target. Sri Lanka ultimately reached 84 for 2, with Mahavithana scoring 39* and Gamage contributing 24* to the chase. Mandal took 1-16 for Nepal.
