Pant was part of the team but did not feature in the playing XI for the second ODI. He sat out the first game as well, with stand-in skipper KL Rahul keeping wickets.
Rohit continued his outstanding form from the Australia ODIs into the Ranchi opener against South Africa, blasting a quick and composed 57 off 51 deliveries, including three sixes, at a strike rate of 111.76.
Rohit struggled to convert his good start into a big score in the second ODI. Although he looked in touch early, he managed just 14 runs off eight deliveries, smacking three boundaries at a strike rate of 175.
Rohit started the fifth over aggressively, smacking three successive boundaries off Nandre Burger. However, the latter struck back, dismissing Rohit on the very next ball.
Rohit edged a ball to Quinton de Kock, who held on for the catch. The on-field umpire ruled him not out, but South Africa’s review overturned the decision.
