During a tense phase of the 2nd ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur, Prasidh Krishna conceded a four, leaving Rohit Sharma unimpressed.
A whopping 720 runs were scored during the second ODI between India and South Africa in Raipur, with as many as three batters hitting centuries. South Africa had fallen short in the series-opening match, which was also a high-scoring affair. However, this time, the Proteas managed to get over the line in style as they hunted down a mammoth target of 359 with four deliveries to spare, to pull themselves on level terms with India in the ongoing three-match series.
While the pitch was flat, the dew made life worse for India. However, the bowlers, at times, were also guilty of straying off their lines and lengths, as was evident by the reaction of ex-captain Rohit Sharma, who couldn’t hide his disappointment when Prasidh Krishna conceded a boundary during what was a tense period of the contest.
Krishna, bowling the 37th over of the innings, was struck for a straight six by Dewald Brevis. The Indian responded by sending a wide down the leg-side before bowling a high full toss, which was adjudged as a no-ball.
Krishna followed with a yorker before Matthew Breetzke carved the next over covers for a four, leaving Rohit annoyed. Eventually, Rohit took matters into his own hands and had an animated chat with Krishna regarding where he needed to bowl.
Krishna dismissed Breetzke later in the innings but finished with bowling figures of 2/85 from 8.2 overs. He though had delivered a relatively better performance in the first ODI, bowling 7.2 overs for a wicket and 48 runs.
Chasing the total, South Africa did lose Quinton de Kock cheaply before Aiden Markram struck a fine century while stitching big partnerships with captain Temba Bavuma and Breetzke, who made 68 off 64.
Brevis struck a quickfire fifty – 54 off 34 – before Corbin Bosch’s unbeaten 15-ball 29 helped South Africa to 362/6 as they completed a four-wicket win. The series-decider will be played on Saturday in Vizag.
