Bina Ramani reveals Rekha's deep connection with Amitabh Bachchan and how his marriage & political career impacted their bond. Details inside.
Rekha's enduring connection with Amitabh Bachchan continues to fascinate, and recently, her friend Bina Ramani shared insights into the actress's feelings and the reasons their relationship ultimately ended. According to Ramani, Rekha wasn't seeking secrecy but rather validation of their bond.
The pair, known for their on-screen chemistry in films like 'Muqaddar Ka Sikandar', 'Suhaag', 'Do Anjaane', 'Mr Natwarlal', and 'Ram Balram', have long been the subject of rumors regarding an off-screen romance. While neither has explicitly confirmed a romantic relationship, Rekha has often expressed her admiration for Bachchan. In a past interview with Simi Garewal, she openly admitted her love for him, stating that it would be difficult for anyone not to be captivated by him.
Ramani, an author, fashion designer, and entrepreneur who is a close friend of Rekha, recently discussed the emotional challenges the actress faced. She emphasized that Rekha's desire was not for a hidden affair but for acknowledgment. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. Amitabh Bachchan's marriage to Jaya Bachchan, coupled with his growing political aspirations, made public acknowledgment impossible.
Ramani shared that Rekha's childhood experiences shaped her relationships, explaining to ANI that Rekha's early entry into the workforce at age 13 or 14, combined with a need for love, influenced her personal connections. She felt a sense of security with Amitabh Bachchan, and according to Ramani, Rekha was deeply invested in their bond. "When I met her, her whole life was in encased in Amitabh Bachchan," she stated.
When asked directly if Rekha was in love with Amitabh, Ramani affirmed, "Yes, she believed she belonged to him in spirit. And she believed that he belonged to her in spirit." She added that they shared a unique understanding.
The situation became more complex when Amitabh Bachchan entered politics. Ramani recounted a specific instance when Rekha visited her in New York and was visibly struggling with the realization that their relationship could never be publicly recognized. Ramani recalled, "Amitabh had joined politics… he may have probably said to her that there was no chance of him ever… their alliance must have had to drift…publicly no more."
Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan last appeared together in Yash Chopra's 1981 film 'Silsila', which also starred Jaya Bachchan.
