Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi is set to launch the Redmi Note 15 smartphone and Redmi Pad 2 Pro tablet in India on January 6th, further intensifying competition in the country's burgeoning mid-range tech market. These devices aim to strike a balance between affordability and performance, a strategy that has proven successful for Redmi in the past.
The Redmi Note 15, a 5G-enabled smartphone, will feature a 108-megapixel main camera and a large 5520mAh battery. Leaks suggest the device will be available in 8GB RAM configurations with either 128GB or 256GB of storage, potentially priced at ₹22,999 and ₹24,999 respectively. While the phone has already launched in China, the Indian version will feature modifications tailored to the local market.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 15 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, an octa-core processor built on a 4nm process. This chip is designed to deliver a balance of performance and power efficiency, making it suitable for everyday tasks and moderate gaming. Redmi is touting 48 months of lag-free performance, indicating a focus on software optimization and long-term usability. The phone will run on Xiaomi's HyperOS 2, the company's Android-based operating system.
Other notable features of the Redmi Note 15 include a 6.77-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate will make scrolling and animations appear smoother. Its peak brightness is advertised at 3200 nits, which should make the screen easily viewable even in direct sunlight. The phone also boasts an IP66 rating for splash resistance. The camera setup includes a 108MP main sensor with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and a 20MP front camera.
Alongside the smartphone, Redmi is also launching the Redmi Pad 2 Pro tablet. This device features a 12.1-inch QHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate and is powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 processor. The tablet is equipped with a 12000mAh battery and supports 33W fast charging, and can even reverse-charge other devices at 27W.
The Redmi Pad 2 Pro will run on Android-based HyperOS 2. It will also feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera. In terms of connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4.
The dual launch highlights Redmi's strategy of offering a diverse range of devices to cater to different consumer needs and budgets.
