Despite a ban in Pakistan, Ranveer Singh's 'Dhurandhar' has become the most pirated film, exceeding '2.0' and 'Raees'. The film still thrives globally.
Ranveer Singh's film 'Dhurandhar' has reportedly become the most pirated movie in Pakistan, despite being officially banned there. Millions of illegal downloads have been recorded.
While the ban has seemingly fueled audience curiosity and led to revenue loss, 'Dhurandhar' continues to perform well worldwide. The film has grossed over Rs 500 crore in India and Rs 140 crore internationally.
Reports indicate that within the first two weeks of its release, the Aditya Dhar-directed film saw approximately 2 million illegal downloads in Pakistan, according to IANS. This makes it the most pirated film in the country, surpassing Rajinikanth's '2.0' and Shah Rukh Khan's 'Raees'.
The theatrical ban in Pakistan may have resulted in a potential revenue loss of around Rs 50–60 crore. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the film has still managed to cross Rs 500 crore in India and Rs 140 crore from international markets, suggesting it could surpass Rs 700 crore worldwide by the end of its second week.
Pakistani audiences are reportedly accessing pirated versions of 'Dhurandhar' through torrent sites, Telegram channels, underground streaming links, and VPN services. Servers based in countries like Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Malaysia are allegedly being used to facilitate this illegal access. Some viewers have criticized the film's narrative, while others have praised the performances, even creating social media content inspired by the movie.
In related news, a petition has been filed in a Karachi court by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), objecting to the use of images of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in the film. The plea seeks the registration of an FIR against the cast and crew of 'Dhurandhar'. The film stars Ranveer Singh as Hamza, an Indian intelligence officer, alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, and Rakesh Bedi.
