Prithvi Shaw is back with Delhi Capitals after being picked up in the IPL 2026 auction. The Maharashtra batter shares his reaction to rejoining his former team.
Prithvi Shaw is heading back to Delhi Capitals. The Maharashtra batter reacted on social media after securing a deal with his former team during the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16.
Shaw previously played for Delhi for seven seasons before being released ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Last year, the 26-year-old found himself without a team initially, as Delhi Capitals opted not to bid for him.
Shaw had to wait until the accelerated round to see if he would be picked. Finally, in the last round, he was among the 11 players selected, landing a Rs. 75 Lakh deal to return to Delhi Capitals.
Shaw expressed his feelings on Instagram, posting a story that read, "Back to my family."
Delhi initially acquired Shaw for Rs. 1.2 Crore in the auction following India's U-19 World Cup victory in 2018, where he captained the team. During his seven seasons with DC, Shaw played 79 matches, scoring 1892 runs at an average of 23.5, including 14 half-centuries.
After releasing Shaw before the 2025 mega auction and subsequently not repurchasing him, DC co-owner Parth Jindal suggested that Shaw needed to be dropped from the IPL to revitalize his career. Shaw faced a challenging domestic season last year, struggling with both form and off-field issues. He moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra, seeking a fresh start and more playing opportunities.
While he showed promise early in the Ranji Trophy, he couldn't maintain that form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In seven matches, Shaw scored 183 runs at an average of 26, with a strike rate of 160.52.
Shaw was the second-to-last player acquired by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2026 auction. Earlier, the team secured Ben Duckett and David Miller for their base prices.
