Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw experienced a dramatic shift in emotions during the recent IPL auction. After initially going unsold twice, he posted a disheartened message on his Instagram story, only to delete it shortly after when the Delhi Capitals acquired him in a later round.
Shaw's name first appeared with a base price of Rs 75 lakh, but he received no bids. He was then included in the accelerated auction of unsold players, where he again went unselected. Following this, Shaw shared an Instagram story expressing his disappointment with a heartbreak emoji and the words "It's Ok."
That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the situation changed when the Delhi Capitals revived his name towards the auction's conclusion. The franchise successfully bid for him, leading to Shaw swiftly removing his earlier post within six minutes. He replaced it with a reshare of the Delhi Capitals' announcement, which featured a photo of him taking a selfie with DC captain Axar Patel, along with a welcoming message.
Shaw captioned his new post, "Back to my family," accompanied by a heart emoji, signaling his changed feelings. This Instagram story reflected his surprise and pleasure at rejoining the franchise he had previously played for from 2018 to 2024.
Shaw, aged 26, has represented India in five Test matches and six ODIs since his debut in October 2018 against the West Indies. His last ODI appearance was against Sri Lanka on July 23, 2021.
After debuting for Mumbai in the 2016-17 domestic season, the right-handed batsman and right-arm off-break bowler recently switched to representing Maharashtra in domestic cricket. Shaw also holds the record for the highest score by any batsman in organized cricket since 1901, having scored 546 in a Harris Shield elite division match. He captained the Indian team that won the U19 Cricket World Cup in 2018 and played for Northamptonshire in the English County Championship during the 2023-24 season.
