Real Madrid fell 1–2 at the Santiago Bernabéu in a tense Champions League night where individual moments — both brilliant and disastrous — shaped the outcome. Here are the player ratings from the defeat:
Thibaut Courtois: 6.5
A rare mistake from the Belgian gifted Manchester City their equalizer, an uncharacteristic lapse in an otherwise strong performance. To his credit, he responded well, producing several big saves that prevented Madrid from going two goals down.
Fede Valverde: 7
Beaten a couple of times by Jeremy Doku’s explosiveness, but overall put in a strong, committed display. His long diagonals and distribution were sharp, and he played with typical Fede intensity.
Raúl Asencio: 6.5
Lost runners on a couple of occasions but was otherwise solid. Competed well physically with Erling Haaland and helped Madrid progress the ball from the back.
Antonio Rüdiger: 4
His over-aggression — a recurring theme lately — cost Madrid dearly. Conceded the penalty that allowed City to take the lead. A headloss moment in a high-stakes match.
Álvaro Carreras: 8
One of Madrid’s best performers. His standout defensive action and explosive ball-carry initiated Rodrygo’s goal. Created another late chance for Endrick with a strong drive and cross.
Rodrygo Goes: 8.5
Real Madrid’s Man of the Match.
A game-high five key passes, a well-taken goal, relentless defensive work, and superb line-breaking throughout. Madrid’s most dangerous and consistent attacker on the night.
Dani Ceballos: 6
Circulated the ball well and chipped in with a couple of important clearances, but struggled to impose himself on the tempo or control of the midfield.
Aurélien Tchouaméni: 6
Some strong step-ups and recoveries, but mixed with careless passes and questionable awareness when tracking runners.
Jude Bellingham: 7
Grew significantly in influence after halftime, becoming Madrid’s best line-breaker in midfield. Worked extremely hard off the ball. But his missed point-blank chance looms large — it could’ve changed the trajectory of the match.
Gonzalo García: 6.5
Showed tidy hold-up play, intelligent touches, and vertical movement. Also defended well from the front. The team noticeably lost structure and presence when he was substituted.
Vinícius Jr: 3
One of his poorest performances in white. Poor decisions, sloppy execution, and zero efficiency in transition. Killed several promising counters and wasted clear chances. A night to forget.
Substitutes
Arda Güler: 6.5
Added a spark from deeper areas, made a couple of strong challenges, and moved the ball cleanly.
Brahim Díaz: 5
Couldn’t influence the match. Struggled to find space or rhythm.
Endrick: 7
Energetic and fearless. Nearly scored with a header off the post and injected life into the attack during his short appearance.
