Flipperachi, the singer of FA9LA, discusses how the song became a viral hit in India and globally after being featured in Akshaye Khanna's Dhurandhar.
The unexpected journey of the song FA9LA, by Flipperachi, has taken the music world by storm. Originally an Arabic hip-hop track, it has found immense popularity in India and on global charts after being featured in Aditya Dhar’s film *Dhurandhar*, starring Akshaye Khanna.
Flipperachi, the Bahraini rapper behind the song, spoke to NDTV about this unforeseen success. He explained that the song's transformation into a viral sensation wasn't due to a remix or a social media challenge, but rather its inclusion in the film.
**From Arabic Hip-Hop to Viral Hit**
FA9LA's success was far from planned. Flipperachi released it as a standalone Arabic hip-hop track. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. its inclusion in *Dhurandhar* changed everything. According to Flipperachi, the film propelled the song to unexpected heights almost immediately. As he put it, “The movie came in, picked it up, and I mean, the rest is history."
The song gained a new identity when clips of Akshaye Khanna’s performance in the movie began circulating online. FA9LA transcended its original form and evolved into a cultural phenomenon.
**India's Love Affair with FA9LA**
What surprised Flipperachi most was the song’s popularity in India. Despite its Arabic lyrics, FA9LA quickly became a staple on Indian social media, used in countless reels, edits, and memes. “I honestly didn’t expect it to blow up like this,” Flipperachi admitted. He noted that even though many listeners may not understand the lyrics, the beat resonated deeply, creating a powerful connection.
While FA9LA is rooted in Arabic hip-hop, it incorporates subtle Indian musical elements, such as tabla percussion. This blend of sounds may have contributed to its appeal to Indian audiences, even though Flipperachi didn't anticipate such widespread popularity.
“To have this kind of impact — I wouldn’t have believed in a thousand years that it would blow up in India,” he said. “Yes, it has Indian flavour in it, but I didn’t know it would rise to this level.”
**Social Media Overload**
FA9LA's momentum continues to build weeks after the film’s release, fueled by social media trends. Flipperachi is struggling to keep up with the flood of content. “There have been so many reels and memes coming in,” Flipperachi said. “I’ve been reposting as many as I can, but my DMs are blowing up. I honestly can’t keep up.”
