Pakistan's U19 cricket team has been announced for the upcoming World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia, along with a preparatory tri-series.
Farhan Yousaf, a 19-year-old middle-order batter, will continue to captain the Pakistan U19 team. A 15-member squad has been confirmed for both the upcoming tri-series in Zimbabwe and the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia from January 15 to February 6.
The Pakistan U19 team is currently competing in the ACC U19 Asia Cup in Dubai. After finishing second in Group A, they are scheduled to play Bangladesh in the semi-final on Friday, December 19. The final of the eight-team tournament is set for Sunday, December 21.
There's only one change from the Asia Cup squad. Right-arm fast bowler Umar Zaib replaces left-arm spinner Mohammad Huzaifa for both the tri-series and the U19 World Cup.
Ali Raza, a right-arm pacer who impressed at the 2024 tournament, has also been named in the squad for the upcoming World Cup. In the previous edition, Raza, then only 15 years old, took 4 for 34 against Australia in the semi-final, nearly securing a victory for Pakistan. He claimed nine wickets in just three games during that tournament.
The tri-series, featuring Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe, will be played from December 25 to January 6. This series will serve as crucial preparation for the 50-over U19 World Cup.
