OnePlus is gearing up to launch its next-generation budget tablet, the OnePlus Pad Go 2, on December 17th. While much about the tablet has already been revealed, it still represents a significant upgrade to OnePlus's affordable tablet lineup. The Pad Go 2, aimed at students and young professionals, offers more than just superficial improvements.
Here's a breakdown of what to expect from the OnePlus Pad Go 2:
- Launch Date and Market Positioning**
- The OnePlus Pad Go 2 will be launched in India on December 17th, alongside the OnePlus 15R and the Watch Lite. Sales are scheduled to begin the following day, December 18th. OnePlus is positioning the Pad Go 2 as a more powerful and accessible tablet, a step above the original Pad Go, while still appealing to budget-conscious buyers seeking a reliable device for studying, entertainment, and light productivity tasks.
- Enhanced Display for Content Consumption**
- A key upgrade is the display. The Pad Go 2 features a 12.1-inch screen with a resolution of 2800 x 1980 and a 7:5 aspect ratio, ideal for reading, browsing, and multitasking with split-screen functionality. OnePlus also highlights an 88.5% screen-to-body ratio and a peak brightness of 900 nits in high-brightness mode. Dolby Vision support is also included, indicating an emphasis on video streaming and improved visual quality compared to the previous model.
- Upgraded Chipset and Software Support**
- Inside, the tablet is equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Ultra processor, a notable improvement over the Helio G99 used in the original Pad Go. This upgrade should provide smoother multitasking and better performance with demanding applications. The Pad Go 2 will ship with Android 16-based OxygenOS 16. Benchmark tests suggest it will feature 8GB of RAM. OnePlus also claims TUV SUD certification, ensuring consistent performance for up to four years.
- Battery and Charging Capabilities**
- OnePlus is making claims about the Pad Go 2's battery life. It includes a 10,050mAh battery with support for 33W SuperVOOC charging. A 45W charger will be included, although the tablet's charging speed is capped at 33W. OnePlus estimates up to 15 hours of video playback, 53 hours of music playback, and up to 60 days of standby time. The tablet also supports reverse wired charging, enabling it to function as a power bank for other devices.
- Stylus Support and AI Features**
- For the first time in the Pad Go series, stylus support is included. The OnePlus Pad Go 2 Stylo offers 4,096 pressure levels and fast charging, with a 10-minute charge providing hours of use. Software features include AI Writer, AI Summary, AI Translation, and AI Recorder, along with OnePlus’ Open Canvas multitasking system for improved split-screen workflows.
OnePlus has confirmed that a Shadow Black variant with 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and 5G support will be available at launch. While the price hasn't been officially announced, it's expected to be under Rs 25,000, a slight increase from the original Pad Go's starting price of Rs 19,999, reflecting the added features and improvements.
