OnePlus 15R India Launch Nears: What to Expect on Price, Performance and Features

OnePlus is preparing to update its premium mid-range lineup in India with the upcoming launch of the OnePlus 15R, expected in stores in just two days. The R series is known for delivering near-flagship performance at a more affordable price, making it a favorite among power users. The new model seems poised to continue this trend.

While OnePlus hasn't yet officially revealed all the specifications or the Indian pricing, the phone's earlier launch in China as the OnePlus Ace 6T offers significant clues about what Indian consumers can anticipate.

Performance and Gaming Prowess

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset is the most talked-about aspect of the OnePlus 15R. This makes it one of the first smartphones worldwide to utilize this processor. According to Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, the Ace 6T was the first device to ship with this chip, which was reportedly co-developed with OnePlus. The company is heavily emphasizing gaming capabilities, highlighting smoother gameplay at high refresh rates and a custom gaming kernel designed to sustain 165Hz performance in supported games.

While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a step below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 found in the more expensive OnePlus 15, it still provides a substantial upgrade over last year's hardware. The standard Gen 5 has slightly lower CPU clock speeds and lacks Qualcomm's High-Performance Memory. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. real-world performance is still expected to be highly competitive, potentially rivaling devices priced much higher, even within OnePlus' own product range.

Design and Display

In terms of design, the OnePlus 15R is expected to maintain the brand’s evolving visual style. Teaser images suggest a familiar squircle-shaped camera module, similar to those seen on recent models. OnePlus has officially confirmed that the front of the device will feature a 165Hz refresh rate display, further solidifying its appeal to gamers and demanding users. Leaks originating from China suggest the phone will have a 6.7-inch OLED panel with 1.5K resolution, which should provide a good balance between sharp visuals and efficient power consumption.

Battery and Other Features

Battery life could be another key strength. The Ace 6T includes a massive 8,000mAh battery with 100W fast charging. If the Indian version mirrors this, it would be the largest battery ever included in a OnePlus smartphone. This combination would likely be very appealing to users who need long screen-on time and quick charging.

Regarding memory and storage, configurations are expected to include up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. the camera hardware appears to be more modest. Leaks indicate a dual rear camera setup with a 50-megapixel primary sensor and an 8-megapixel secondary lens, along with a 32-megapixel front camera, suggesting that photography is not the primary focus.

Other expected features include a metal middle frame, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, stereo speakers, an X-axis linear motor for improved haptics, NFC support, and OxygenOS based on Android 16 for the Indian market.

Pricing Expectations

In China, the Ace 6T starts at CNY 2,599, which is approximately Rs 33,000. The OnePlus 15R is expected to be priced under Rs 50,000 in India, positioning it above the previous 13R but below the OnePlus 13s. With the official launch just days away, the final details will soon be revealed.
