Richa Sharma, a Mumbai mom, turned her homemade laddu recipe into a thriving business, shipping to 15+ countries with 500+ orders monthly. Read her story!
What started as a simple act of love – making laddus and mathris for her children in her Powai home – has turned into a flourishing business for Richa Sharma.
The delicious aroma of her homemade treats didn't just stay within her apartment. It wafted through the building, attracting the attention (and taste buds) of her neighbors. Soon, word spread, and Richa was flooded with orders from across Mumbai and eventually, all over India.
"I started this food business as a very small venture," Richa Sharma, founder of Humble Flavours, shared in an interview with Startup Pedia. "To date, I haven't marketed it using any regular digital marketing strategies. Every order that comes in is either from a repeat customer or from someone who heard about us through a recommendation."
Humble Flavours, a direct-to-consumer (D2C) brand based in Powai, Mumbai, was founded in 2020 and specializes in high-quality, delicious Indian sweets and snacks made with love.
**The Backstory**
Richa Sharma's roots are in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, but she spent her childhood in Ajmer, Rajasthan. In 2006, she earned her MBA from IIRM College in Jaipur. From 2008 to 2012, Richa worked at SKS Microfinance (now BFIL) in Gujarat, managing a large team.
"My job required a lot of travel, so I eventually decided to switch paths," Richa explained. "I joined Parul University in Vadodara as an assistant professor, where I stayed from 2012 to 2016, before moving to Mumbai after getting married."
The turning point came after the birth of her second child in 2018. Richa began to consider her future, wondering what she would pursue once her children were older.
