Mohit Sharma retires from all formats of cricket
Mohit's professional career stretched nearly 14 years, starting with a first-class debut in 2011 for Haryana
Mohit Sharma has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket. The 37-year-old took to Instagram to announce his decision: "Today, with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing."
Mohit's professional career stretched nearly 14 years, starting with a first-class debut in 2011 for Haryana. A couple of years later, he made his T20 debut playing for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. For India, he featured in 26 ODIs and eight T20Is between 2013 and 2015, picking up 37 wickets across the limited-overs formats in international cricket.
In the IPL, Mohit began as a new-ball bowler for CSK before transforming himself into a death-overs specialist in the latter part of his career. After a stint with Kings XI Punjab, his late-career resurgence came with Gujarat Titans in 2023, when - at 35 - he picked up 27 wickets and came close to winning the Purple Cap.
He later turned out for Delhi Capitals in the 2025 season, playing eight games in which he picked up only 2 wickets and had an economy of 10.28. He was recently released by the Delhi franchise.
"A very special thank you to the Haryana Cricket Association for being the backbone of my career. And my deepest gratitude to Anirudh Sir, who's constant guidance and belief in me shaped my path in ways words cannot express. Thank you to the BCCI, my coaches, my teammates, IPL franchises, support staff and all my friends for their love and support," added Mohit.
"Special thanks to my wife who always handled my mood swings and anger, and supported me through everything. I look forward to serving the game in fresh ways."
Mohit was the joint third-highest wicket-taker for India in the 2015 World Cup, while he picked up 23 wickets in the 2014 season for CSK, bagging the Purple Cap even before his India debut. Mohit featured in 120 matches in the IPL, picking up 134 wickets.
