An inquiry panel, formed to investigate the chaotic scenes at Lionel Messi's Salt Lake stadium event, conducted an on-site inspection Sunday.
A committee established by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to investigate the disruptions at Lionel Messi's recent event at Salt Lake Stadium conducted an inspection of the venue on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The investigative panel, led by retired Calcutta High Court Justice Ashim Kumar Ray, includes Chief Secretary Manoj Pant and Home Secretary Nandini Chakravorty. According to officials, the team will examine the stadium grounds, crowd control measures, and spectator accommodations as part of their inquiry into alleged mismanagement during Saturday's event.
The panel may also review CCTV footage as part of its investigation. The committee's mandate is to determine who was responsible for the problems that led to the chaos and to recommend steps to avoid similar incidents at future high-profile events.
The event, which had been promoted as a major sporting spectacle, descended into disarray when thousands of spectators, unable to get a clear view of Messi, protested and caused vandalism inside the stadium. The widespread disorder prompted Messi to leave the field prematurely.
Following the incident, police arrested the event's main organizer on charges related to mismanagement and public disorder, and a First Information Report (FIR) was filed.
