Exteriors
Extravagant adequately describes the XJL. It is a 5.25m long car with a wheelbase of 3.1m. These are astonishing numbers. To put it into perspective, you could fit a whole MG Comet within the XJL’s wheelbase. The body language is simple yet elegant. The XJL doesn’t try to look sporty but maintains the sophisticated look of a limousine. It doesn’t try too hard, and yet it looks exquisite.
From the front, the XJL resembles other Jaguar sedans from the time, like the XF and XE, thanks to the iconic Jaguar badge and grille. But move to the side, and the differences are evident. The XJL has aged like fine wine and can still turn heads on the road.
Interior
The cabin is a place you want to be in. Being chauffeured around in the back of an XJL makes you feel important. You may not be a part of the royal family, but you sure can get driven around like one. In the rear, you get seats with reclining, three memory settings, and three massage settings. Rear passengers get individual 10.2″ entertainment screens, sunroof, a retractable table and sun blinds. With these features and ample leg and headroom, the rear passengers can not get any more comfortable.
But if you plan to drive the XJL yourself, you would appreciate other features like an 8″ touchscreen, Meridian sound system, ventilated seats, rear parking camera, front parking sensors, cruise control, etc. You have everything you expect from a modern car.
The most notable thing about the interiors is the build quality. You are surrounded by high-quality leather and soft-touch plastics, and you will not find any cheap materials inside.
Powertrain
This Jaguar XJL comes with a 3.0L V6 diesel engine that produces 271 horsepower and almost 600 Nm of torque. This engine was strong enough to pull this mammoth vehicle. Jaguar also offered the XJL with a supercharged 5.0L V8 Petrol, but this particular example is a V6.
The ride is very smooth thanks to the double wishbone suspension at both front and rear. The cabin is well-isolated, and the engine is refined, preventing any engine or road noise from entering.

What’s The Catch?
When buying such a vehicle, you obviously make some sacrifices for the luxury. It is a 5m-long car, and you would struggle to manoeuvre it in tight spaces. The ride is very low, which means you would scrape the underside on the massive Indian speed bumps. Additionally, the V6 can be a gas-guzzler.
The above concerns are pretty common in most premium sedans, new or used. However, the primary issue with buying a used Jag is the maintenance. The XJL is going to be hefty on your pockets if something goes wrong. You would enjoy its opulence when it is outside the shops, but you will still be worried about the potential for something to go wrong.
Should you buy it?
Other than the maintenance woes, there are no glaring problems with the XJL. Nevertheless, the maintenance remains a big red flag for potential buyers. Most buyers do not want to deal with this issue and opt for safer alternatives. With a new car, you get the manufacturer’s warranty, which you can’t get with this used XJL.
The XJL is a cheaper way to look rich than buying a new limousine. Owning a Jaguar is identical to a status symbol. This particular example of the XJL costs 22 lakh rupees, but you can get this price down with proper negotiation. This unit is a single-owner one and has been driven 65,000 km.
Making such a financial decision is nothing short of gambling. Either you get a car in pristine condition, letting you have the most luxurious and stress-free drives possible, or you get a car that loves the service centre. If you are considering purchasing this Jag, you should get yourself a trusted mechanic who knows these premium vehicles well. Make any decision only after consulting with an expert.
The Jaguar XJL is an astounding piece of machinery. It has many more perks than just carrying you around. It is an interesting alternative to the ordinary SUVs like Creta or Seltos, and only an enthusiast will recognise the fun of owning such a vehicle.
