Player ratings as Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha star in Manchester United's chaotic 4-4 draw with Bournemouth. Defensive errors cost Red Devils.
Manchester United's recent home woes continued as they were held to a 4-4 draw by Bournemouth, securing only two points from their last three games at Old Trafford. The match was an eight-goal rollercoaster, showcasing both attacking brilliance and defensive vulnerabilities.
Much of the pre-match discussion revolved around whether United manager Ruben Amorim would deviate from his preferred 3-4-3 formation. The starting lineup initially suggested continuity, but the on-field setup resembled more of a 4-4-2. Diogo Dalot played at left-back, with Leny Yoro on the right, while Amad Diallo featured in a midfield trio.
United began brightly, converting early pressure into a deserved lead. Amad Diallo headed home after Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic parried a header from Cunha. United continued to press, with Mbeumo, Casemiro and Cunha all threatening to extend the advantage. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. Bournemouth struck back through Semenyo, who finished off a fine run down the right with a shot in off the post – his first goal in eight games and seventh of the season.
Just before the break, Casemiro headed United back in front from a corner, aided by another error from Petrovic. But Bournemouth leveled immediately after half-time, Evanilson pouncing on defensive inexperience to score his first goal since August. United then fell behind as Tavernier scored directly from a free-kick.
Fernandes equalized with a stunning free-kick of his own, and Cunha then appeared to have secured a dramatic victory for the visitors. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. substitute Junior Kroupi scored in the 84th minute to level the score once more. Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with Senne Lammens making two crucial saves to deny David Brooks and prevent further misery for Amorim.
Here are the player ratings for Manchester United:
- Senne Lammens (6/10):** While he could have done better on a couple of the goals, Lammens also made two outstanding saves to deny David Brooks. He was slow reacting to Tavernier's free-kick, despite being well-positioned, and didn't close down the angle for Semenyo's goal. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. his late saves were vital in securing a point.
- Leny Yoro (5/10):** Yoro struggled early on, adapting to a new role at right-back, and was at fault for failing to prevent Evanilson's goal.
- Ayden Heaven (5/10):** Heaven's inexperience was evident in Bournemouth's second goal. He is currently leading United's defence only due to injuries to key players like Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire.
- Luke Shaw (5/10):** Shaw was dispossessed by Justin Kluivert in the lead-up to Semenyo's equalizer. He attempted to compensate by pushing forward later in the game, reverting to his more traditional left-back role.
- Diogo Dalot (8/10):** Dalot delivered an excellent performance, building on his previous display against Wolves. His cross led to United's opening goal, and he maintained a positive attacking intent while also defending effectively.
