A bystander is being hailed a hero after tackling and disarming one of the gunmen at Bondi Beach in Sydney during a Hanukkah celebration. Video verified.
A video verified by The New York Times shows a remarkable act of bravery at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, where a bystander tackled and disarmed one of the gunmen involved in a shooting targeting a Hanukkah celebration on Sunday.
The footage depicts an apparently unarmed man approaching one of the shooters from behind, using the cover of parked cars. He then leaps onto the gunman, wrestling a long gun away from him.
Chris Minns, the premier of New South Wales, confirmed he had seen the video and praised the man's actions. "That man is a genuine hero," Minns told reporters on Sunday. "And I’ve got no doubt that there are many, many people alive tonight as a result of his bravery."
Minns expressed his astonishment at the scene. "Unbelievable," he said, shaking his head. "It’s the most unbelievable scene I’ve ever seen: A man walking up to a gunman who had fired on the community and single-handedly disarming him, putting his own life at risk to save the lives of countless other people."
