Lizelle Lee's explosive, unbeaten half-century propelled the Hobart Hurricanes to their first-ever WBBL title, defeating the Perth Scorchers in the final.
Lizelle Lee's explosive batting display led the Hobart Hurricanes to their first WBBL championship, as they defeated the Perth Scorchers in the final. After restricting the Scorchers to 137/5, the Hurricanes chased down the target with ease, securing victory with five overs to spare.
Lee immediately went on the attack, finding the boundary three times in the first over. Her opening partner, Danielle Wyatt-Hodge, followed suit in the next over, propelling the Hurricanes to 24/0 after just two overs. While Lee continued her assault on the Scorchers' bowling attack, Wyatt-Hodge was dismissed in the sixth over.
The Scorchers desperately needed wickets, but Nat Sciver-Brunt further compounded their woes with some quick boundaries. Following a couple of quieter overs, Lee smashed Alana King for two consecutive sixes and then cleared the ropes twice more in the subsequent over. This onslaught not only brought up her half-century but also effectively sealed the game for the Hurricanes. Although Sciver-Brunt was eventually dismissed, Lee's dominant innings saw her break the record for the highest individual score in a WBBL final.
Earlier, the Scorchers had struggled to gain momentum, especially in the powerplay. Katie Mack was dismissed for 17 off 21 balls, placing the pressure on Beth Mooney to lead the Scorchers' innings. Despite Mooney's recent strong performances, she had a shaky start.
