At least ten people were injured in a shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on Saturday evening.
The New South Wales ambulance service responded to reports of multiple people shot at approximately 6:45 p.m., according to a spokeswoman. She stated that paramedics were treating more than ten individuals, and some were being treated for gunshot wounds.
ABC Australia broadcast footage showing police officers at the scene in an outdoor area, where a gun was lying near a tree. Emergency workers were seen transporting a person on a stretcher.
New South Wales police issued an alert minutes after the shooting, advising the public to avoid the Bondi Beach area due to a “developing incident.” Bondi Beach is located on Sydney’s east coast.
Police reported at approximately 7:30 p.m. that two people were in custody. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. they have not released further details about the incident, including whether it was believed to be a targeted attack.
Robert Gregory, chief executive of the Australian Jewish Association, stated that members of the Jewish community informed him that the shooting targeted a Chabad event at the beach. “This is an attack on the Jewish community that deeply pains us as a community,” he said.
