Chennai Super Kings acquired wicketkeeper Kartik Sharma for a staggering Rs. 14.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction, a massive jump from his Rs. 30 lakh base price.
The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) made a significant splash at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, securing the services of wicketkeeper Kartik Sharma for a whopping Rs. 14.20 crore.
The bidding war for the 19-year-old Sharma began with the Mumbai Indians at his base price of Rs. 30 lakh. The competition quickly intensified, with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) driving the price past Rs. 5 crore. CSK then entered a fierce battle with KKR, causing the price to escalate sharply. A late bid from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) attempted to disrupt the chase, but ultimately, CSK emerged victorious, acquiring Sharma for the substantial sum.
Sharma, a Rajasthan native, is set to make his IPL debut. He has garnered attention for his aggressive hitting in the lower order during domestic white-ball cricket, particularly in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In that tournament's league stage, he amassed 133 runs in five matches, maintaining a strike rate exceeding 160. Throughout his nascent T20 career spanning 12 matches, Sharma has consistently maintained a strike rate above 160.
With this acquisition, Kartik Sharma joins Prashant Veer as the joint-most expensive uncapped player in IPL history. Both players were acquired by Chennai Super Kings for the same price.
