Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma turned back the clock in a vintage performance with the bat to help India to a 17-run win over South Africa in Ranchi.
The social media is inundated with congratulatory messages for two of India’s finest white-ball cricketers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, following another match-winning partnership with the bat, culminating in an Indian victory. The two stalwarts continued their fine form from the final ODI of last month’s Australia tour and delivered another eye-catching performance, this time in Ranchi, as India beat South Africa to take a 1-0 lead in their ongoing three-match series.
There’s been plenty of chatter around the future of Kohli and Rohit, with the ageing superstars not a certainty in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup plans. Both have retired from Tests and T20Is and now only play one format at the international level.
However, the manner in which the pair has performed in India‘s last two ODIs means their backers can claim that, should they continue to deliver consistently, picking them in the World Cup squad should be a no-brainer.
Fans on social media have been attacking the critics of Rohit and Kohli. There are reports of BCCI calling for an urgent meeting to bridge the communication gap between senior players and the team management.
Amid this, Kohli’s sister, Bhawna Kohli Dhingra, has set social media ablaze with a cryptic post featuring both Virat and Rohit.
She captioned the picture ‘IYKYK’, which is an acronym for “If You Know, You Know" – an internet slang often used to indicate shared knowledge.
Social media users have picked up the Instagram Story and are running amok with wild theories.
Kohli scored a brilliant century – 52nd of his ODI career – while Rohit hit a sparkling half-century with the pair stitching a century stand for the second wicket to propel India to 349/8 in 50 overs at the JSCA International Stadium on Sunday.
South Africa gave India a tough fight before eventually being bowled out for 332 in 49.2 overs with Kuldeep Yadav (4/68) and Harshit Rana (3/65) starring.
India will face South Africa in the second ODI on Wednesday.
