A preview of the Mumbai Indians' strategy for the 2026 IPL auction. With a solid core, MI looks to fine-tune their squad and contend for the title.
The Mumbai Indians (MI), a powerhouse in the IPL, are heading into the 2026 auction with a strong team following a successful 2025 season. While there's always room for improvement, their current roster, featuring stars like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav, makes them strong contenders for the title. Hardik Pandya's team appears well-equipped to compete against any opponent.
As the five-time champions and one of the most dominant teams in the league, the Mumbai Indians seem to have most of their needs covered as they approach the IPL Auction 2026 on December 16 in Abu Dhabi. MI, who are tied with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the most IPL titles, were knocked out in Qualifier 2 last season (2025) by the Punjab Kings (PBKS), largely due to a stellar batting performance by Shreyas Iyer.
Mumbai Indians had a slow start to the previous season, a recurring theme for them, losing four of their first five matches, partly due to Jasprit Bumrah's absence at the beginning. That said, the reality is a bit more complicated. with Bumrah's return, MI turned things around, winning six consecutive games and securing a playoff spot. Their win percentage in the 2025 season was 56.2, a significant improvement from the 28.6 in 2024 when they finished at the bottom of the league table. The auction is upcoming.
