The IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi witnessed a dramatic surge in value for Prashant Veer, with the Chennai Super Kings ultimately securing the Uttar Pradesh all-rounder for a staggering Rs. 14.20 crore. This figure represents a 47.3-fold increase over his base price of Rs. 30 lakh.
The bidding war for the 20-year-old saw CSK fend off initial interest from the Rajasthan Royals, followed by a late challenge from Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ultimately, Chennai Super Kings prevailed, making Veer the most expensive uncapped player in IPL auction history. Shortly after, Kartik Sharma matched Veer's price tag when CSK also acquired him for Rs 14.20 crore.
Veer, a left-arm spinner and middle-order batter, is set to make his IPL debut. His T20 career to date includes 112 runs in 12 matches, achieved at a strike rate of 167.16. He has also taken 12 wickets in nine innings, maintaining an economy rate of 6.45. Veer's emergence in the UP T20 League with Noida Super Kings has positioned him as a potential long-term successor to Ravindra Jadeja's role within the Chennai Super Kings squad. The auction took place on December 16, 2025.
